A range of different encoders is available for applications requiring an accurate control of motor velocity, direction of rotation and positioning. The performance of a drive or servo system depends on the precision and reliability of the servo components available. MicroMo Electronics' incremental shaft encoders are based on the optical or magnetic design principles. To reduce the influence of resonant frequencies, the encoders are mounted directly on the shaft or integrated into the motor itself.
Operating principles of the integral magnetic encoders
Series IE2 encoders consist of a rotor-mounted magnetic toothed ring and a special hybrid circuit. The magnetic field differences between the tip and base of each tooth are converted into electrical signals by a sensor integrated into the circuit. This signal is then processed by a proprietary circuit. The output consists of two 90°-offset square-wave signals with up to 512 pulses. The encoder is integrated into the SR-Series motors, increasing its length by a mere 1.4 mm and as a build-on option for DC-micromotors and brushless DC servomotors
Some of the features:
Highly compact design
High resolution with up to 2,048 lines per revolution corresponding to an angular resolution of 0.18°
Manetic operating principle meaning long service life, no component aging, and insensitive to dust, contamination, and light.
Low mass and weight
No pull-up resistors across outputs because no open-collector outputs
Symmetrical pulse edges, CMOS and TTL compatible
Low power consumption
Available in many combinations
Fields of Application
These compact and ruggedly designed incremental encoders are suitable for use under severe ambient conditions.
The provide compact drive solutions characterized by a high level of performance and reliability.
Indication and control fo shaft velocity and direction of rotation
Positioning tasks calling for compact high-resolution drive systems
Operating principles of magnetic encoders
Magnetic encoders are based on a multi-pole permanent magnet disc mounted directly on the motor shaft. Magnetic flux variations are detected by magnetic sensors and converted into output signals with a 90° phase shift. This principle allows the configuration of micro-encoders characterized by very small dimensions and high resolutions.
General Information
A range of different encoders is available for applications requiring an accurate control of motor velocity, direction of rotation, and positioning. The performance of a drive or servo system depends on the precision and reliability of the servo components available. MicroMo incremental shaft encoders are mounted directly on the shaft or integrated into the motor itself. Certified in-process inspections during production ensure compliance with the highest standards of quality. These inspections are based on closely defined quality control procedures. The technical data of our encoders are tested for conformity with the various specification parameters at their rated operating voltage.
Operating principles of optical encoders
Optical encoders use a continuous infrared light source transmitting through a low-inertia multi-section rotor disk which is fitted directly on the motor rear end shaft. The unit thus generates two output signals with a 90° phase shift.
